14 Science students awarded 2019 Plater Medallion
The William M. Plater Civic Engagement Medallion recognizes graduating students that have demonstrated exceptional dedication to their community while attending IUPUI. Activities typically include volunteerism, political engagement, service learning, and community/social issue advocacy. Serendipitous discovery by IUPUI researchers may lead to environmentally friendly lubricant

INDIANAPOLIS -- Seed oil components of an ornamental flower could provide a direct pathway for designing a new class of environmentally friendly lubricants. Researchers at the School of Science at IUPUI identified the compound in the seed oil that is produced in a manner unlike any other fatty acid. The study was published today online in the journal Nature Plants.
IUPUI takes second place in Roche Global Code4life University Challenge
INDIANAPOLIS -- A team of students from IUPUI finished second in Roche's first-ever global Code4life University Challenge. Roche, a global pioneer in pharmaceuticals and diagnostics focused on advancing science to improve people's lives, tapped into gaming's popularity to recruit millennials using an online coding game.
Pratibha Varma-Nelson honored by American Chemical Society as outstanding educator
INDIANAPOLIS -- Pratibha Varma-Nelson, professor of chemistry and founding director of the STEM Education Innovation and Research Institute at IUPUI, has been named the 2018 recipient of the George C. Pimentel Award in Chemical Education, sponsored by Cengage Learning and the American Chemical Society, or ACS. The prestigious award will be presented in March 2018 at the 255th ACS National Meeting in New Orleans.
